The Dravidian Linguistic Association of India (DLA) and the International School of Dravidian Linguistics (ISDL) together have brought out more than 175 publications so far in the area of linguistics and its related subjects. Most of these publications are considered to be immensely valuable for the researchers not only in the field of linguistics but also in subjects like history, culture studies, sociology, stylistics etc. Emphasis is given by the ISDL in its publications to highlight the convergent process that underwent across different language families of India and the underlying unity among them keeping intact their distinctiveness and divergences.
Every year, ISDL organizes seminars, conferences, workshops etc. on different topics in linguistics. In addition, research papers are presented and discussed in the weekly meetings of the Research Forum of the International School of Dravidian Linguistics. The Council of Direction of ISDL has decided to publish all suitable papers obtained through such seminars, conferences, workshops etc., for the benefit of a larger linguistic circle.
The present publication 'Papers in Linguistics Vol. I' is brought to light with this intention. Those papers which could not be incorporated in this volume will be included in the next volume i.e., 'Papers in Linguistics Vol. II'. I am sure, as usual, this publication of the International School of Dravidian Linguistics will be whole heartedly received by the enthusiastic researchers in linguistics and allied fields. We seek the support and cooperation of the researchers in linguistics both from India and abroad in future also.
