Men who create history are remembered as legendary. Such legendary men are born once in a century. Kashi is witness to such an unprecedented creation of history. Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi has achieved what could not be accomplished in a thousand years. He has paved the way for the rejuvenation of Indian pride after a wait of almost 400 years. Kashi Vishwanath Dham is an example of his determination. The glory of Baba Vishwanath, a victim of the cruelty and destruction by the Mughal rulers, has been revived in the form of Kashi Vishwanath Dham.
PM Narendra Modi started taking a keen interest in the shaping up of the corridor after laying down the foundation stone of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor on March 8, 2019. Initially, he gave a briefing to the architects and he gave his inputs and suggestions for the architectural design. which were incorporated. He also reviewed the 3D model and suggested more amenities that would make the project more disabled-friendly. The path from ghat to the temple would have unhindered access by way of ramps and escalators.
The Kashi Vishwanath Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in Vishwanath Gali of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh in India. The temple stands on the western bank of the holy river Ganga, and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the holiest of Shiva temples. The main deity is known by the names Shri Vishwanath and Vishweshwara literally meaning Lord of the Universe. Varanasi was called Kashi ("shining") in ancient times, and hence the temple is popularly called Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
The temple is considered a central part of worship in the Shaiva philosophy by Hindu scriptures. It had been demolished by many Muslim rulers many times, most recently by Aurangzeb, the sixth Mughal emperor who constructed the Gyanvapi Mosque on its site. The current structure was built on an adjacent site by the Maratha ruler, Ahilya Bai Holkar of Indore in the year 1780. Since 1983, the temple has been managed by the government of Uttar Pradesh.
During the inauguration function Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that under the guidance and motivation of Prime Minister this auspicious day has come. He said the Kashi was earlier rebuilt by Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar. He also said that Mahatama Gandhi dreamt of making Kashi clean when he visited the city and now Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made his dream come true.
AIR correspondent reports that the phase 1 of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham has been constructed at a cost of around 339 crore rupees. The project is spread over a massive area of 5 lakh square feet whereas the earlier premise was limited to just around 3000 square feet.
The Kashi Vishwanath Dham has been developed under the supervision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham in March 2019. The project provides direct connect of Ganga Ghats to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. A total of 23 buildings were inaugurated in phase 1 of the project. A variety of facilities including Yatri Suvidha Kendras, Tourist Facilitation Centre, Vedic Kendra, City Museum, Viewing Gallery, Food Court etc are made available for the pilgrims visiting Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The project is designed to provide easy access for the disabled and old age people with provision of ramps, escalators and other facilities.
The famous Nandi Maharaj idol and the Widsom Well have become part of the complex once again after 352 years. A lot of work is still pending and hopefully, there is much more planned for one of the oldest living and continuously inhabited cities of the world. While the world has witnessed the grandness of Baba Vishwanath, one may want to know about its history and how far it has gone in the past.
