Wandering around the ruins of Fatehpur-Sikri, a group of tourists encountered a strange old man of regal bearing, but in rags. He kept on ranting “Would you like to hear the story of the ‘Red Stone’ (Lal Pathar)”. Intrigued they agree. This is the story of Kumar Gian Shankar, a cultured well educated man, who was likely to remain a lifelong bachelor, in the tradition of many of his ancestors. But fate had other ideas. He brings home a young woman he rescues from some bandits, and makes her his mistress. Later, when he his captivated by the voice of another woman and marries her against her wishes, the stage is set for jealousy and love to take center stage, leading to bloodshed. But Gian Shankar’s torment does not end with the killing.
