"Refractories for Steel Making Vessels"
The book is conceptualized as insights input for academic interest of upcoming ITI, Diploma, B.Tech Ceramic Engineering and Material Science professionals, marketing teams of refractory manufacturers, refractory user in ferrous and non-ferrous industries in general and specially Steel Plant's supervisors & shop floor managers. It covers about some major refractory vessel's utility aspects in the steel making plants which consume about 65-70% of annual refractory production of a country. In brief, it is a pre-awareness guide book for manufacturers as well as users of refractory, for applications, preparations and maintenance of the vessels for safe & trouble free longer campaign life.
This book is an exclusive summary of a long experience and field observations of the author placed in simple language and in forward sequence of working for professionals in the field. The contents of the book are divided in standard work flow sheets of six chapters as mentioned below:- 1. Data Sheets This section covers standard data formats for collecting relevant but unavoidable information about commercials, operating parameters and practices of various main vessels where manufacturers plan to customize the sale of their products. Based on these inputs, manufactures specify and develop matching refractory technology and products for the customized operating ambience for optimal performance. It is an approach to make available systematically experienced data. Reason being, Refractories used in, namely similar vessels undergo varying thermo-physical, chemical and mechanical process conditions from Plant to Plant. This way these data sheets help manufactures to customize their products than to manufacture on standard specifications which are based on normal parameters & practices. Data sheets continual research input instruments for techno group of refractory manufacturers.
2. Standard Application Procedure (SAP) or Standard Lining Procedure (SLP) In a Steel Plants or so in any industry with continuous process of productions, down time of the producing vessel is undesirable and most irritating in management terms. But unfortunately unavoidable. Therefore the objective of the management is to maximize running campaign life of vessel and minimize their down time. In other words in the network of repair activities, refractory lining of the vessel is also viewed and planned with critical, constraining and challenging time schedule.
As a general practice, to minimize down time for repair or rebuilding of vessel, refractory lining is essentially continued in relay system of teams work. First team, at the end of it's work time reaches out and hands over to the next team. But different teams can not be afforded neither to have their own concept of lining and materials nor be allowed for doing so. Hence a common approach as Standard Application Procedure or Lining SAP/SLP is evolved. Thereby the pit falls, of different groups, even different individual's concept in the team is minimised. The SAP/SLP is used as effective management tool for Quality Audit of Application too.
