(To the original Kannada book)
The story of 'Samudra mathana or Amruta mathana' is replete with inner meanings. It has been my conviction for many years that this story illuminates the path of the jivatman and leads him towards atmadarshana. It has embedded in it valuable guidance for the sadhaka-regarding the search for the guru; the guru-tattva; nishkamakarma; viveka; vairagya; bhaktiyoga; jnanayoga and rajayoga or kundalini-yoga. The story also throws light on the visionary and auditory experiences which occur during dhyana. The present book is in the hands of the reader owing to this firm conviction. If the book succeeds in impressing on the reader that The Ramayana, The Mahabharata and our Puranas are not to be looked upon as mere concocted stories; that, on the contrary, emanating from the springs of our sanatana dharma, they have great and universal messages to the whole of mankind.
My deep obeisance to His Holiness Jagadguru Shri Shri Shri Bharateeteertha Mahaswamiji of the Dakshinamnaya Shri Shrungeri Sharada Peetha, and to all the countless rishi-munis and mahatmas of our sanatana dharma.
I dedicate this book to Poojya Guru Kundaliniyogi Shri Shri Shri Govindagiriswamiji who has blessed my effort, standing as the prime inspiring chaitanya behind it; to my mother Late Mahalakshmamma and father Late Shrikanthashastry; and to my late mother-in-law Smt. Sharadamma and father-in-law late Shri. Nagappa and finally to our great women: for they are the real protectors and preservers of Sanatana Dharma.
I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the well known Sanskrit scholar Vidya Vachaspati Late Shri Seshachala Sharma who very kindly cited relevant shlokas and guided me through their meanings; and to Vidyasagara Dr. T.S. Krishnamurthy for reading through my manuscript and offering corrections and valuable and inspiring advice even at the advanced age of 95!
