Book Description
Preface

India is a land of ancient civilisation and its rich history and legends created a unique religious cultural environment. From the ancient time human being worshipped mother Goddess as the emblem of power through the natural resources. Thus, the importance of "Shakti" as power in Hindu mythology is beyond question.

The present publication - "Shaktipiths: An astounding journey to divine destination" designed to depict a detailed overview on historical-geography of the divine destinations of fifty-one Shaktipiths in India and adjacent countries in Monograph format. It is adorned with large scale maps of each Shaktipith along with exhaustive historical and geographical information.

As the evolutionary process of Shaktipiths in Indian subcontinent is highly associated with mythological background, the preliminary chapters are dealt with this matter. The introductory chapter I provides a general conversation about the most prominent act of expressing religious beliefs which is revealed through the erections of sacred or holy places. Chapter 2 describes the chronological history of the evolution of Shaktipiths which is closely related with the mythological explanations and transformation from ancient time to the late medieval period Literatures available for this are the key resource for depicting the evolutionary process. Chapter 3 pointed out the typical nature of locational characteristics of Shaktipiths in all over India and surroundings, whereas chapter 4 describes the detailed pathways of each Shaktipiths with map. This chapter has two parts 4A and 48. First one deals with the Shaktipiths of India through maps showing the surrounding's connectivity, amenities etc. and the second part, describes the piths of neighbouring countries. Through Chapter 5. an attempt has been made to propose the circuits for pilgrims to visit the fifty-one Shaktipiths which is synonymous to Bharat Darshan. Here, the geographical regions have been merged with this circuit conception. The inquisitive reader may also find our one-page map of India on Shaktipith [NATMO Publication) as a ready reckoner. Above all, readers are requested to go through the Table-1 where the name of each Shaktipiths with name of location of Piths, name of Devi, Bhairav and associated body parts has been summarised. This is based on the research work of Prof DC Sirkar who did most authentic, investigative work. The output of other research works also helps a lot to give the final shape to this production. With this special publication the organisation aspires to attract both pilgrim tourists as well as people who are inquisitive to this field.
