Book Description
Foreword

Firstly, I would like to thank Professor Dr. Anil K. Gupta, FTWAS, FNA, FASC, FNASC, Professor (HAG), Sir J.C. Bose National Fellow, Department of Geology and Geophysics, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, the Author of the book "Shri Ram: The most Virtuous Scion of Ikshvaku, A Scientist's Perception" this book is a result of great research which a landmark scripture for the entire mankind.

Doctor Anil K. Gupta a great Scientist, has written this book from Scientist's perspective highlighting chronology of the great history of India based on his own research and Puranic description. The book is mix of science and spirituality. The Ramayana, the first epic poem, is a comer stone of Hindu culture and literature, a timeless and eternal Adi Kavya, written by Maharishi Valmiki. Ramayana explores themes of Dharma, loyalty and the triumph of good over evil, offering valuable lessons on morality and ethics through the story of Lord Ram's life. Ram is venerated as an ideal human being, embodying virtues like righteousness, compassion, duty, sacrifice, and leadership, making him a symbol of ethical and moral conduct. Ram is seen as the embodiment of Dharma, always upholding what is just and right. He is known for his compassion towards all beings, including his enemies, and his willingness to forgive his adversaries if justified. Ram is a model of fulfilling his duties, following his lineage tradition, even at great personal cost, as demonstrated by his exile to the forest. He was an able administrator to lead his people, fully knowing nuances of good administration in all aspects including Foreign Affairs. He is known for his bravery and strength, both in the battlefield and in the face of adversity. One can infer about his qualities from the praises of Ram by Mareech when Ravan approached him for his help to kidnap Sita. Ram was loyal to his family, his people, and his Dharma, and obedient to his father and teachers. He is known for his unwavering integrity and honesty in all his dealings. Despite his divine power, human form of Lord Vishnu, Ram remained humble and respectful towards others. He had the ability to control his emotions and actions, even in the face of strong temptation, anger in adverse circumstances and was also grateful towards those who have helped him.

The readers of this book will enjoy the new and scientific dimension of Shri Ram era through this book.

Acknowledgements

TR To write this book, I was greatly inspired by the storytellers of Ramayana and the ceaseless struggle of the Hindu community for reclaiming the land where Shri Ram was born in Ayodhya (Shri Ram Temple movement). The controversy on Ram Setu and whether Shri Ram was a mythological hero, with political and media debates, further strengthened my resolve to explore the scientific merits of Ramayana, virtues of Shri Ram and building of Ram Setu and present these facets in the form of a compendium. I have strived to understand how Ram Setu might have been constructed and have also tried to determine the probable timing of the construction of this structure between India and Sri Lanka.

In the year 2016, I started ceaselessly reading the Puranas, Shrimad Bhagavada Gita, Valmiki Ramayana, and related literature, with devotion and deep interest. Around the same time, I received both volumes of Valmiki Ramayana by Dr. Vikas Adlakha of Wadia Institute, Dehradun on an occasion. And finally, COVID-19 fulfilled my urge to pen down my thoughts about Shri Ram's life as well as write about the marvel of ancient times Ram Setu, in the form of a book. It took me about two years to complete the first draft of the book. My student Jeet Majumder helped in drawing Figures 1-6 based on the places mentioned in the Valmiki Ramayana. For corroboration, I visited several important places linked to Shri Ram and his journey in exile, as mentioned in Valmiki Ramayana. These visits were supported by Sir J.C. Bose Fellowship awarded by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), now known as Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Department of Science and Technology.
