Book Description
Preface

The text of Siddhasabdarnava could have see the light of the day earlier had its press copy along with other relevant material not succumbed to the food of 12th July 1961. The idea of doing all the work over again was almost give up in view of the time and labour it had taken. Nevertheless what little paper material could be rescued and dried up contained a few stray sheets of the constituted text and some collation sheets. Though washed off, they offered me occasional moments of hope to be able to restore the whole text with less efforts in shorter period of time than that required before .

On expressing my desire to edit this text again Dr. Katre with his usual kindness and encouragement enabled me to devote mu full time and energy to this work for a year. It is my pleasant duty to express my gratitude to him.

I am very much indebted to Prof. Shivarama Krishna Shastri of the Dictionary Department for a close scruitiny of the constituted text and for going through the proof sheets of the Index. I have accepted his valuable suggestion for the betterment of the text taking least liberty with the original Ms. of Siddhasabdarnava and without neglecting Hemacandra’s work. I have profited a good deal from his rich erudition and ripe experience.

My colleague Pandit V.W. Paranjape has spared his leisure hours to enlist unusual occurrences and doubtful points in this text in the light of which we checked the text again. He has been light of which we checked the text again. He has been kind to go through the printed forms of this book to note lingering errors. Errata enlists major items. I am sincerely thankful to Shri. Paranjape for is friendly help.

Dr. H. C. Bhayani’s readiness to read the portion dealing with Rajasthani and his useful comments leading to some significant corrections must be acknowledge with special thanks.

Mss. scruitinised for this edition were made available to the author through the good office of Dr. J. S. Jetley of Ahmadabad.

The basic Ms. Presented a number of various problems while editing this text. Effort has been made to solve them with care but a few cases have hardly met with full justice. Vaijayanti Kosa of Yadavaprakasa edited by Gustav Oppert, London, 1893 has proved very helped for the Index.
