In my Foreword to the Lectures on Yoga by Sri Ananda Acharya, which our Institute issued in 1971, I had an occasion to dwell briefly on the life and writings of that Indian saint-philosopher and litterateur and, also, to make a mention of our project of gradually issuing his other writings in our Ananda Acharya Universal Series, which had been started, specially, for this purpose. According to this programme, we have recently issued his Yoga of Conquest and Spiritual Talks as vols. 2 and 3 of the said Series. The present work is being issued as vol. 4 of the Series. It re-issues the author's 291 poems which he had published in the form of four collections, viz., Snow-birds (1919), Cakrasakha or Companion of God (1921), Usarika or Dawan Hymns (1921) and Saki or Comrade (1921), which have, since long, gone out of print. Outpourings, as these poems are, of an enlightened soul, steeped deep in Indian philosophy and culture, these have been sung in sweet and significant words against the background of the Indian idealism as having a special message for the modern man in the throes of a new birth. I have great pleasure in also mentioning here that our Institute has taken up the above-mentioned project at the instance of and with the financial help so lovingly extended by Sri Einar Beer (Norway) who, is a most devoted disciple of the late Swamiji.v Shri K. V. Sarma of our Institute has put in strenuous labour in editing this work. He has checked up the entire matter, added diacritical marks to Sanskrit words, supplied suitable titles to poems which did not have them and made uniform the presentation of the poems which, on account of their having been originally issued by different agencies, had exhibited minor divergences. He has also added a useful Subject Index to the volume towards facilitating reference to the various matters touched upon in these poems.
