A multifaceted personality whose talent did not escape the discerning eye of Satyajit Ray Soumitra Chatterjee's inherent passion for literature and his yearning to keep himself abreast with world cinema helped him scale heights - be it on celluloid or on stage. As an elocutionist or orator he always drew an august gathering. He won accolades and appreciation as a poet and painter, besides being an actor par excellence.
Months after we lost this icon of Bengal, the 26th KIFF was honoured to pay homage to him through an exhibition titled 'The Journey of a Legend' portraying various facets of the cerebral star. The show was much applauded and we received numerous requests to document the effort.
The book is thus a humble tribute to Soumitra Chatterjee. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all associated with the making of this book.
