About The Author
Dr. Prema Nandakumar (b. 1939) is a writer and independent scholar writing in Tamil and English. She was the first to translate Subramania Bharati into English (Bharati in English Verse, 1958). She was the first to take up Sri Aurobindo's epic poem, Savitri, for doctoral research and received the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, summa cum laude from the Andhra University in 1961. The work was published as A Study of Savitri by the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in 1962. She followed this up with her post-doctoral work, Dante and Sri Aurobindo. A prolific writer, she has published a large number of books and articles; her subjects deal mainly with Indian culture, ancient and modern Tamil poetry and about great personalities who have upheld India's Sanatana Dharma. A recipient of several awards including 'Sri Aurobindo Puraskar', 'Pandita Ratna' and the Government of Tamil Nadu's 'Tiru Vi Ka award'. Her published works include titles like A Study of Savitri, The Glory and the Good, Dante and Sri Aurobindo, Subramania Bharati, Sri Aurobindo: A Critical Introduction, The Mother of Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Sister Nivedita and Sri Aurobindo, Śrī Rāmānuja: The Great Integrator, Adi Sankara: Finite to the Infinite, Śrī Madhva: The Hero as Acārya, Srimad Bhagavatam: At Each Step a Luminous World and Swami Vivekananda: Leader on the Royal Path.
