Book Description

About the Book It is an English rendering of the Sukhmani Sabib, an important composition by the fifth Master, Guru Arjan Dev, which is recited as a daily prayer by many devout Sikhs as well as by non-Sikhs. One can enjoy the flow of original from this translation. It can be a useful and reliable translation especially for the young Sikh generation brought up in western countries.

In a translation from verse to prose, most probably the features get blurred and we are left with faceless shadows. A rendering from verse to verse is more likely to retain a semblance of the original features. Here the translator sincerely follows the flow of the original and his words follow from the flow.

About the Author Surinderjit Singh (born on 21-12- 1932) taught English literature for three decades. He joined Ramgarhia College, Phagwara in 1957 and moved later on to G.G.N. Khalsa College, Ludhiana. He left the job in 1988 to devote himself whole-heartedly to the rendering into English verse of some portions of Gurbani in which he was already engaged since 1981. His renderings have been well- received by scholars and devout Sikhs alike.
