Introduction
Background to Kaumarbhritya: Prehistoric to Present era Every creature of the universe looks for the pleasure or happiness. The entire creature try to get that pleasure through the necessities of life viz. Aahara (diet or food), Nidra (Sleep), and Maithuna (Reproduction); while maintaining that pleasure persistently the animals go through the Bhaya (Fear) to lose the life or getting pain or discomfort. Apart from these four (Ahara, Nidra, Bhaya and Malthun) God blessed the human with one more aspect of life, which is knowledge. Knowledge and wisdom makes human as highest intellectual authority of the universe. Humans are taking the advantage of universal wealth for their own benefit and ruling the conditions with their intellectual skills. Over period of time human establishes the settled life style from his previous tribal life. Discovery of fire, farming, animal husbandry, art of construction, sculpture etc helps the human to civilize. As the civilization progresses the fear of human for food and shelter (sleep) reduce to significant extent than other creatures. Humans then ascertain the system of marriage, family, community, society and culture. The different cultures at different geographical conditions flourish with different customs and traditions. The Bharatiya Samskriti (Indian culture) is one of them and is termed as the Vedic or the Sanatana or the Aarya culture and this culture is supposed to be at the peak of developments amongst the all other ancient cultures of the world. It is believed that, all other cultures were influenced by Vedic culture of ancient India. Chaturveda viz. Rig-Veda, Yajurveda, Samaveda, and Atharvaveda are the basic foundation of these ancient cultures of India. All the customs and traditions of India have their roots in Chaturveda. If one goes through the literature of ancient India, one will find that Indian traditions looks toward the human life with different angle like economic, social, ethical, spiritual, medical etc. Atharvaveda, one among the Chaturveda defines the use of different herbal plants along with the different holy and sacred Mantras for healing of different diseases. Ayurveda is the descendent scientific heritage of Atharvaveda and is the fundamental base for the Indigenous system of Indian Medicines. In fact Ayurveda is one among all the parental science for different health care system. across the globe today. Ayurveda classified the health care system into eight major or fundamental domains. Kaya chikitsa (General Medicine), Bala Chikitsa or Kaumarbhritya Tantra (Pediatric medicine), Graha Chikitsa (Psychiaytry and Psychology Medicines), Urdhvanga Chikitsa (ENT and Ophthalmic Medicines), Shalya Chikitsa (Surgical and Parasurgical sciences), Danshtra Chikitsa (Forensic medicine and toxicology), Jara Chikitsa (Geriatric Medicines), Vrushya (Male and female Infertilty/sterility medicines). Kaumarbhritya or Bala Roga is the primary branch of Ayurveda dealing with the health of children (from embryological life till adolescent health).
