About the Book
Although there have been several attempts for world peace within the fields of religious traditions, scientific community and political groups, progress towards world peace will remain a dream if a cooperative effort of science and spirituality doesn't take place."
Preface
Science and religion (or spirituality) remain the two most dominant forces of humanity in the search for the ultimate meaning of life and the universe. Are these two forces reconcilable? If yes, what are the possible grounds for their synthesis? Could the recent developments in science and technology about human nature and the cosmos enable us to explore religious (or spiritual) wisdom in new ways? In turbulent and exciting times like ours, what role could the science and spirituality dialogue play in restoring world peace? Moreover, what implications would this dialogue have on our future scientific researches and endeavours for peace and harmony?
Introduction
Science and spirituality are often seen as disparate domains of existence. Particularly, since the beginning of what is known as the period of Enlightenment in the Western world, the domains of science and spirituality have increasingly grown further apart such that, in the name of secularism, spirituality or religion has been gradually displaced from the public common spaces, namely, schools and other educational institutions, workplaces, public forums on values and areas of social concern, healthcare, and scientific discourses, inter alia, at the risk of it being marginalised. The ramifications of the voiding of spirituality are being felt in modern society today as we begin looking for answers to the moral malaise that threatens the fabric of human society and the environment in which we live and work.
