Shri Harihar Mishra is not only a poet, short-story writer and critic, he is also a very well-known dramatist who has authored twenty-five books of plays and One-Act-Plays in Odia. He has earned great admiration for being an actor and director; he has acted in numerous radio plays and films. His acting career began when Sri Mishra acted in his own plays written during his college days. His fame as a playwright rest on his introduction of new technique in his plays as evident from his plays, particularly the plays like Ratir Duiti Dena (The Winged Night), Pratipaksha (The Antagonist) and Ebe Nuhen Kebe Nuhen (Now or Never), etc. He always introduces starkly innovative plots and unique characters, experimenting with different aspects of the new theatre. His plays always appeal to the young, socially conscious and politically alert crowd. Sri Mishra has portrayed some of his characters as devoid of aim and purpose who being cut off from their social, religious, metaphysical, and transcendental roots, seem to be lost; all their actions become absurd and useless.
Sri Mishra has adopted, trans created many well-known plays keeping in view the mood of the time and taste of his audience. Sri Mishra has been awarded by Odisha Sahitya Akademi and Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi in recognition of his contributions in the field of dramas. He is currently working as the President of Odisha Sahitya Akademi.
