संस्कारो हि गुणान्तराधानमुच्यते।
Samskara is karma (action) where qualities are incorporated in addition or modifying a thing's natural properties by various methods using dravyas. (ब. स. वि 1/21)
संस्करणं सम्यक्करणं वा संस्कारः
A procedure or ritual is done to prepare certain things in proper manner. (पाणिनी मूत्रम्)
Pregnancy is the most joyful journey in a woman's life. There are enormous physiological and psychological changes and stimulations occurring in the pregnant lady. The growth and development of a healthy progeny depend upon the woman's adoption of these changes. Therefore, all possible care should be taken by the pregnant lady during pregnancy. In Ayurveda, it is quoted as पूर्णमिव तैलपात्रमसंक्षोभयताइन्तर्वत्नी भवत्युपचर्या ।। (व० सं० शा० 8/22) stating that a pregnant woman should be treated just like a pot filled with oil, as slightest oscillation of such pot causes spilling of oil, similarly slightest excitement to the pregnant woman can initiate abortion etc.
Acharya Charak has mentioned the concept of 'Shreyasipraja (best quality progeny). Here comes the concept of Garbhasanskara, were Garbha means intrauterine fetus and samskara is a process of increasing the potential Garbhasanskara is a scientific fact as mentioned in Ayurveda to get the Shreyasipraja It is a complete regimen including diet and lifestyle from planning a conception to delivery of a healthy child. It includes pre-conceptional care, pregnancy care and post-delivery care.
Mother's womb is the first university for the child, where the fetus develops a bond with the mother. It is a process of educating the fetus in the womb. It is a special effort taken to stimulate a baby's senses gently from the outside for the maximum development of its physical and intellectual ability.
Acharya Vagbhat mentioned that couples desiring specific qualities in their offspring should surround themselves with the picture, speech, memory, and stories of such personalities. He also mention that spoilt children are a curse even for influential and worthy families.
