Now I present to the public Volume II of the "Upasana-cintamaņi', (Wish-yielding gem of meditation). The Volume is entitled "Kavaca-rahasyam" (Secret of armour). The Kavaca-rahasyam" represents a profound study of the Kavacas in the form of explanations and details of rituals to be applied before recitation. I found the majority of these Kavacas in one of the diaries of Rampratap Shastri and I have systematically arranged them and have added some more relevant materials. The titles of this book and the present Volume are given by me.
The Author: Pandit Rampratap Shastri (1887 A.D. to 1952 A.D.)
Rampratap Shastri was a great Sanskrit Pandit Raja-Yogi, Mantra-sastri and a realised Saint of the 20th century. He was an exceptionally brilliant child. He studied Sanskrit grammar, Navya Nyaya, Mīmansa and Bhagavata Purana at an early age. He studied at Benaras with the-them great Sanskrit Pandits such as M.M.siva Kumar Shastri and M.M.siva Datt Sharma at Lahore where he came in close contact with A.C. Woolner and Baron Stail-Holstein. He was appointed as Lectureer in Sanskrit at the Oriental College, Lahore at an extremely young age of 16. Later he joined Morris College, Nagpur as Professor of Sanskrit and took pre-mature retirement at the age of 43. Thence he was Head of the Departments of Sanskrit, Pali, Prakrit and Indian Vernaculars.
In 1930 A.D. Rampratap settled in Beawar, a small town near Puskara (Ajmer) Rajasthan after his pre-mature retirement from Nagpur University and devoted the rest of his life to the religious meditation. Soon the fregrance of his knowledge of the Sastras, teachings and realisation spread all over India. Let me mention that Rampratap was a born Guru. He had several spiritual powers such as transcendental perception (Divya-drsti) and Vak-siddhi when he was very young. At Lahore in 1901-02 when he was only a student of "Shastri" class. the Diwan Sahib, of Late Maharana Ranjit Singh. became his disciple with all the members of his family. He could enter in the mind of anybody and calculate his exact hour of birth and death. Whatever he said. came out true. This was experienced by thousands and thousands of his friends and disciples. By and by Rampratap became very distinguished all over India. Bands and bands of scholars, Sannyasins, Acaryas, disciples and divotees of various spiritual paths visited him at Beawar. His behavior was equal to all. His treatment was equal to Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Buddhist Monks and Parasis.
