Book Description
About the Book
This volume explains the mysteries of Creation from the Vedic standpoint by an eminent scholar Pandit Motilal Shastri, a devout disciple of the much acclaimed Vedic guru, Pandit Madhusūdan Ojhā. It consists of five scholarly discourses presented before an august audience of well-known scholars and acāryas of Vedaśāstra, at Rashtrapati Bhawan during 14-18 December 1956. These discourses - Science of Agni-soma; the Science of Five Divisional Universe; Vedic Concept of Man: An Exposition; Science of Aśvattha: An Outline; and Integrated Relationship of Vedaśāstra and Purāṇaśāstra - illuminate new insights into the mysteries of Creation, offering new definitions to well-known Vedic terms. The volume in hand is an English translation of these five discourses by Rishi Kumar Mishra, a well-known author, writer and editor, and a disciple of Pandit Motilal Shastri. It enables the new generation of scholars and intellectuals to understand and grasp the mysteries of Creation. It is an inimitable storehouse of Vedic wisdom.

About the Author
Rishi Kumar Mishra was an editor, writer and thinker, a former member of Rajya Sabha, adviser to three prime ministers and an institution builder. His life turned upside down when he was chosen by Pandit Motilal Shastri as his disciple. Shastri-ji initiated the disciple into the mysteries of Vedic wisdom. So profound was the impact of Shastri-ji's teachings that Mishra-ji underwent an inner trans-formation. The guru asked him to return to his own world and internalise what he had learned and then communicate it to the world. Shastri-ji set his disciple the task of disseminating the Vedic knowledge in English. The fulfilment of his guru's desire was a difficult task. Mishra-ji had to balance between normal existence and to learn and deepen the immortal knowledge. The result was thirty years of tapasya. The following works emerged from the meditative sojourn: Before the Beginning and After the End: Rediscovering Ancient Insights; The Cosmic Matrix: In the Light of the Vedas; The Realm of Supraphysics: Mind, Matter, Energy; The Ultimate Dialogue: Fusion of Knowledge, Intelligence and Action and The Whole Being: A Journey Towards Harmony and Happiness. Of the two institutions Mishra-ji conceived and created, the first one was in 1990, when he set up the now-famous Observer Research Foundation. Ten years later, he created the Shri Shankar Shikshayatan Trust to promote the teachings of his gurus, Pandit Madhusūdan Ojhā and Pandit Motilal Shastri.

Preface
INDIA's first President, Dr Rajendra Prasad, had an abiding interest in Vedic knowledge. He often invited learned scholars for discourses on ancient Indian texts. He was introduced by one such scholar to Pandit Motilal Shastri from Jaipur. Impressed by what he learnt of Shastri-ji, the President invited him to offer five discourses on Vedic Vijñāna at Rashtrapati Bhawan during 14-18 December 1956. The lectures were attended by well-known scholars and acāryas (teachers) of Vedaśāstra. Shastri-ji was a devout disciple of famous Vedic guru, Pandit Madhusūdan Ojha, the royal pandit at the court of Mahäräjä of Jaipur. For the lectures, Shastri-ji chose the central theme of his guru's profound knowledge and books - the mysteries of Creation. The five themes he selected for the discourse focused on five distinct vidyas (knowledge systems), all of which offered a unique insight into the mysteries of Creation. For each of the discourses, Shastri-ji chose to expound on select Vedic terms to reflect upon their deeper meanings which illuminate the mysteries of Creation and the universe. These discourses were collected and preserved as Pañcavyākhyānam. In his Preface to the book, President Rajendra Prasad wrote that he found Shastri-ji's lectures far more perceptive than expected. Not only were the discourses important from the Vedic viewpoint, they also illuminated wisdom from Purāņas and other important texts. Shastri-ji revealed new insights into the mysteries of Creation and offered new definitions of well known Vedic terms.
