This Brass statue, inspired by the Japanese folktale of the Money and the Crab, depicts the story's climax, in which the cunning monkey convinces the crab to swap the rice ball for a persimmon seed and then kills the crab. The narrative, as well as the monument, serve as a reminder that unbridled greed can lead to collapse and, eventually, death, as occurred to the monkey when he was slain by the crab spawn.
