This brass Urli, commonly known as Otturuli, is a wide-mouthed vessel made of brass metal and used for cooking a range of foods, is one of Kerala's traditional cookware. It carries the traditional shape and size but has not evolved into a decorative item. In the festive season it is filled with water and then decorated with flower petals and tealights. It is believed that placing an Urli in this manner wards off negative energy. In common practice and believe it is used for enhancing the home decor during festivities.
