The 'Blue Buddha,' often known as the Buddha of medicine or healing, epitomizes the stunning effect of the darker blue on Buddhist aesthetics. The rich blue of lapis lazuli is the most distinguishing aspect of this Medicine Buddha. The blue colour evokes the wood element, which is all about restoration and growth. He is the supreme healer, who with the powerful vibrations of his mantra can heal a person’s body and mind. It is an inbuilt tendency to think that physical illnesses require physical solutions, but the teachings of medicine Buddha are believed to cure people by spiritual practices. He holds a bowl of medicinal herbs in his left hand and the right hand rests on his right knee in varada mudra and holds the stem of a healing plant in between his thumb and forefinger.
