The emperor's unusually contemplative and spiritual turn of mind is emphasized in this illustration. This illustrates one of his visits to Mu'in-ud-din Chishti at Ajmer. The faqir sits in a peaceful manner, clad in a white overflowing robe and a white band tied over his head. He has a flowing beard, his head slightly bent as he makes a gesture of blessing with his right hand. Birds and beasts sit in his abode in peaceful unison. The emperor sits with his legs bent, hands in his lap, one over the other, in complete reverence. He is dressed in all his royal finery. Two of his attendants accompany him; one with a beard seems apparently Muslim and other has a plump face. They too are dressed in long jamas and Akbari turbans. They are, however, base feet in the presence of the faqir. According to court ettiquetes, they stand with their feet together and hands clasped together in front.
That Akbar gained from such visits is a known fact. A son was born to him by the blessings of Salim Chishti and he named him after the saint.
