Length : 19-30 mm
Recognition marks : Stout, pale brownish, shiny surface; tips of mandibles, eyes, and two marginal spots at the middle of the elytra are black; head is densely punctate, pubescence is sparse, male antennae are no longer than the body; pronotrum and elytra have coarse punctures; female amtennae are shorter than the body.
Habitat : Adults are collected by beating branches and nocturnally at lights. Larvae live in soil and feed in rotting stumps and roots.
Distribition : Western United States.
Note : This species are representatives of the very large subfamily Lepturinae. These colorful long-horned beetles are often found on flowers. Some species resemble bees or wasps. They are difficult to identify to species.
