It is essentially a colored drawing rather than a full painting, for the pigment is thin, the lines evident and empty, uncolored paper serves as background. Instead of strong color and incisive modeling, the artist prefers to focus our attention on the linear interplay of the various forms on the surface of the painting. But by working only in subdued tones of color, a sense of weight and volume is missing. In spite of the above, the artist is able to correctly portray the wild animal's fierceness and its supple muscles. Precise lines and the judicious use of colors brilliantly capture the expression as well as agility in the animal's movement. The spots on the skin of the leopard are realistically shaped and placed. Details of the animal are rendered in such a manner, that the miniature is like a piece of documentation.
