In the serene aura of ancient wisdom, “Shakyamuni Buddha,” born as Siddharta Gautama, unfolds a tale of enlightenment that transcends time. In 563 B.C.E., he emerged as a radiant soul in the Shakya clan, relinquishing princely luxuries to traverse a spiritual odyssey. Seated in the “Bhumisparsha mudra,” his right hand connects with Earth, symbolizing the moment of awakening. His alms bowl, cradled in the left, echoes the simplicity of his newfound existence. He shines as a beacon of enlightenment, his existence a dance between earthly lineage and celestial realization.

Adorned with snailshell curls and elongated earlobes, his visage exudes divine grace. Clad in the kasaya robe, he sits beneath the ethereal halo of a chakra, “the circle of enlightenment,” an emblem of cosmic unity. This enlightened form of Lord Buddha, carved in copper and gilded with gold, invites contemplation on the profound journey from earthly attachments to the boundless realm of spiritual illumination.

The Awakened One

Crafted in Nepal, this stunning statue embodies the essence of Shakyamuni Buddha, the historical Buddha who lived in ancient India. Born Siddhartha Gautama, a prince of the Shakya clan, he renounced his royal life to seek enlightenment and the cessation of suffering. After years of rigorous asceticism and profound meditation, he attained Buddhahood under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya. From that moment, he became known as the Buddha, "the awakened one," and dedicated the rest of his life to teaching the path to enlightenment, known as the Dharma. The story of Siddhartha’s birth is filled with auspicious signs and prophecies. His mother, Queen Maya, dreamed of a white elephant entering her womb before his conception. Upon his birth, the infant Siddhartha is said to have taken seven steps in each direction, declaring, "I am chief of the world, foremost of the world, most excellent of the world! This is my last birth; there will be no further rebirth!" These events foreshadowed his extraordinary destiny as the Buddha.

A Glimpse of Nirvana

This magnificent statue captures the serene and compassionate presence of Shakyamuni Buddha. The meticulously crafted figure sits in the lotus position (padmasana), a posture symbolizing stability and perfect balance, essential for deep meditation. His hands are positioned in the dhyana mudra, the gesture of meditation, resting gently in his lap. He holds a bowl, a symbol of renunciation and the alms he would receive on his daily rounds. The statue is made of copper, a metal highly revered in Buddhist art for its conductive properties and ability to hold spiritual energy. The golden gilding imparts a radiant glow, echoing the inner light of enlightenment. The figure rests upon an intricately detailed lotus base, the lotus flower symbolizing purity, spiritual awakening, and the potential for all beings to achieve enlightenment. The halo behind the Buddha's head emanates rays of light representing wisdom.

Artisanal Excellence

Every detail of this statue reflects the skill and devotion of the Nepalese artisans who created it. Measuring 10.0 inches in height, 7.0 inches in width, and 4.0 inches in depth, this piece makes a striking addition to any meditation space, home altar, or collection of sacred art. Its presence serves as a constant reminder of the Buddha’s teachings on compassion, wisdom, and the path to liberation from suffering. Displaying this image serves as a focal point for your own practice, inspiring a deeper connection to the Buddha's profound message of peace and enlightenment for all beings.
