Embodiment of Asceticism and Divine Power

This exquisite brass statue captures the serene yet potent form of Lord Shiva in his ascetic guise, a yogi deeply immersed in meditation and spiritual contemplation. Crafted with meticulous detail in India, this sculpture embodies centuries of artistic tradition and devotion. The rich patina of the brass highlights the intricate carving, bringing to life the divine presence of Mahadeva, the Great God, who is revered as the destroyer and transformer, the ultimate ascetic, and the lord of the universe. The tranquil expression on Shiva's face, with eyes closed in profound meditation, invites a sense of peace and introspection. His characteristic third eye, a symbol of spiritual wisdom and intuition, is subtly rendered. Adorning his form are elements that speak volumes of his divine nature: the coiled cobra around his neck, Vasuki, is a testament to his mastery over poison and the wild, and a symbol of his fierce yet benevolent power. The matted locks of hair, often depicted cascading down his shoulders, are intricately carved, suggesting the flow of celestial energies. He is adorned with rudraksha beads, believed to be Shiva's tears, further emphasizing his ascetic lifestyle and connection to nature. ––––––––––––––––––

Symbols of Divinity and Compassion

In one hand, Shiva holds the

Kamandalu

, a sacred water pot. This humble vessel represents renunciation, simplicity, and the sustenance of life. It is often associated with the sages and ascetics who travel the world carrying only what is essential, drawing strength from within. The water within the Kamandalu can be seen as representing the cosmic waters from which creation arises, or the purifying essence of divine knowledge. His raised palm, in the Abhaya Mudra, signifies protection, fearlessness, and the dispelling of all anxieties. This gesture assures devotees of his benevolent grace and unwavering support. In his other hand, or often depicted nearby, is the

Trishul

, the trident, a potent symbol of Shiva's threefold powers: creation, preservation, and destruction. It represents the balance of the universe and his role in maintaining cosmic order. This iconic weapon is not merely an instrument of war but a spiritual tool that cuts through ignorance and illusion, paving the way for enlightenment. The base upon which Shiva is seated is often adorned with motifs that further enhance his divine persona, such as the head of a lion or other powerful creatures, signifying his dominion over all beings. This sculpture is more than a mere idol; it is a conduit to the divine, a reminder of the profound teachings of detachment, inner strength, and the eternal cycle of existence that Lord Shiva embodies. Its presence is sure to bring a sense of sacredness and spiritual depth to any space.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
