The
Adhishthatri or queen of the sacred Srichakra, goddess Rajarajeshwari is often
evoked as “Kameshwari”- the goddess of passion, who brings activity and desire
to the world after the great deluge, becoming the origin of all creation.
In this
traditionally crafted bronze statue, goddess
Rajarajeshwari, the divine feminine attired in regal ornaments and
saree, appears with the Ikshukhanda (sugarcane, with the power of Rasa or
sweetness) and a flower with parrot perched on it (the bird-mount of Kamadeva
or Lord of Passion).
With the attributes in her primary hands, Devi Rajarajeshwari brings desire into the world, while with the noose and goad in her secondary hands, she regulates it, creating a balance of ebb and flow in the cosmos.
The silken flow of her saree in the front, mirroring the softness of the lotus petals underlines the superb technique and skill of the artists. A divine smile on Devi Rajarajeshwari’s face and the immaculate rounded sculpting of the statue make this a sacred artwork for the devotee and the connoisseur of Hindu art.
