The ten interlocking or stacked syllables of the Kalachakra mantra (Om Ham Ksha Ma La Va Ra Ya Sva Ha), are commonly known as the ‘all-powerful ten.’ The interlocking body of this mystical monogram is composed of the seven syllables ‘Ham Ksha Ma La Va Ra Ya’ written in Lantsa characters. Lantsa is an Indian Buddhist script- probably of late Pala origin although certain scholars date it as late as the seventeenth century which is specifically used for mantra syllables and the titles of sacred texts. This stylish and beautifully ornate script was devised from the Sanskrit alphabet and used extensively.

An Emblem of Cosmic Harmony and Divine Power

This exquisite wall hanging, meticulously crafted in Nepal from brass, is more than just a decorative item; it is a powerful symbol steeped in ancient Buddhist philosophy and artistry. The central motif features the "All Power Ten" interlocking syllables, also known as the "Ten Syllables of Kalachakra." The Kalachakra Tantra, a profound and intricate teaching within Tibetan Buddhism, deals with the concepts of time, cosmology, and the path to enlightenment. These ten syllables are considered fundamental building blocks of the universe, representing the interconnectedness of all phenomena and the potential for liberation. The intricate metalwork depicts these sacred syllables woven together in a labyrinthine pattern, symbolizing the complexity of existence and the skillful means required to navigate through it. The brass itself, known for its durability and resonant properties, enhances the spiritual significance of the piece. The interplay of silver and copper tones further accentuates the detailed craftsmanship, bringing the design to life. –––––––––––––––––––

Artistry Rooted in Tradition

The surrounding border is a testament to the rich artistic heritage of Nepal. Delicate floral motifs and swirling leaf patterns frame the central mandala, evoking the beauty and abundance of nature, a common theme in Buddhist art that reminds practitioners of the impermanence and preciousness of life. The meticulous repoussé technique, where metal is hammered from the reverse side to create a raised design, results in a stunning three-dimensional effect. Each petal, each leaf, and each curve is rendered with precision and care, reflecting the dedication and skill of the Nepalese artisans. The presence of the lotus base beneath the syllables is also highly symbolic. The lotus, a flower that grows from mud and blooms in pure water, represents spiritual purity, enlightenment, and the overcoming of worldly desires. It signifies that even amidst the complexities and challenges of life, one can achieve a state of pristine awareness. –––––––––––––––––––

A Sacred Focal Point for Your Space

This wall hanging serves as a powerful reminder of the universal principles of harmony, interconnectedness, and spiritual aspiration. It can be a focal point in any meditation room, study, or living space, inviting contemplation and mindfulness. The image of the Kalachakra mantra is believed to invoke blessings of protection, good fortune, and spiritual growth. In Tibetan lore, the Kalachakra mandala is often visualized as a celestial palace, and this depiction captures a glimpse of that cosmic order. Bringing this piece into your home is akin to inviting the blessings of the cosmos and the wisdom of ancient traditions into your everyday life. Its substantial size and detailed craftsmanship make it a striking piece of art that resonates with both aesthetic appeal and profound spiritual meaning.
