Auspicious Beginnings

Invoke the blessings of Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the harbinger of good fortune, with this meticulously crafted brass statue. This representation of Lord Ganesha, known as Lambodara for his prominent belly, embodies prosperity and wisdom. The silver hue of the brass lends a contemporary touch to this traditional depiction, making it a striking addition to any sacred space or home decor.

Craftsmanship and Artistry

The statue's intricate design showcases the skill of artisans. Notice the meticulous inlay work featuring coral and turquoise colors, adding a vibrant contrast to the silver finish. These gemstones, traditionally prized for their beauty and spiritual significance, elevate the piece beyond mere decoration. Each color is carefully placed, forming intricate patterns that accentuate the divine form of Ganesha.

Iconography of the Elephant-Headed God

Ganesha's iconography is rich with symbolism. His large belly, Lambodara, represents the abundance of the universe and the ability to digest all experiences, both good and bad. The modak (sweet dumpling) in one of his hands signifies the sweetness of realized knowledge. His trunk, sometimes curved to hold a sweet, indicates his discriminating power and his ability to grasp the essence of truth. In his other hands, Ganesha holds a goad (ankusha) which symbolizes his power to impel mankind forward on the spiritual path, and a noose (pasha) to capture all difficulties. The gesture of the hand facing outwards symbolizes blessings and protection. The lotus flower symbolizes purity and spiritual awakening. The mouse at his feet is considered to be his vehicle. In this context, the mouse is interpreted as one’s desires, which can nibble at one’s spiritual progress. By keeping the mouse at his feet, Ganesha demonstrates his mastery over desires.

Stories of Ganesha

Ganesha's birth story is as fascinating as his image. According to one tale, Parvati, the consort of Shiva, created Ganesha from the sandalwood paste she used for bathing, to guard the entrance of her abode. When Shiva returned, Ganesha, not recognizing him, prevented him from entering. Enraged, Shiva severed Ganesha's head. Parvati, heartbroken, insisted that Shiva restore Ganesha's life. Shiva, unable to find the original head, replaced it with that of an elephant, thus giving Ganesha his distinctive appearance. The incident, though filled with drama, underscores Ganesha's role as a protector and a symbol of loyalty.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
