This panchaloha Hanuman statue bronze is a collector’s item. From amongst all the Hanuman sculptures at Exotic India, this one stands out because of its expressiveness and stateliness. On a traditional multi-tiered pedestal stands the loving servant of Lord Rama. His goad rests head downwards between His feet and His hands are joined in the namaskaram mudra.

Such a stance is indicative of gentleness and devotion. Typically, the Hanuman idol for pooja may depict Him as a soldier and a fighter (Bajrangbali Hanuman statue), but the one you see on this page shows the bhakta (devotee) side of Him. It is made from panchaloha, an alloy whose precious gold and silver content delivers an inimitable metallic finish.

Panchaloha is a demanding medium to work with. Through sheer skill and patience, the artisan has introduced a wealth of detail into the Hanuman murti statue. This includes His one-of-a-kind facial features, the pleats of His dhoti, and the engravings on His weapon.

A Divine Vision of Devotion and Strength

This exquisite standing sculpture of Lord Hanuman, known as Sankat Mochan – the remover of obstacles – is a breathtaking testament to ancient craftsmanship and profound spiritual symbolism. Rendered in the revered Panchaloha bronze, a sacred alloy comprising five metals traditionally used in South Indian temple art, this piece embodies both earthly power and celestial grace. The lost-wax casting technique, known as Madhuchista Vidhana, ensures every intricate detail, from the muscular form of the divine Vanara to the serene expression on his face, is captured with remarkable fidelity and depth. Standing at thirteen inches, this statue is an imposing yet graceful representation, perfect for adorning any sacred space, altar, or home, radiating an aura of protection and unwavering devotion.

Embodying the Spirit of Hanuman

Lord Hanuman, the son of Vayu (the wind god) and Anjana, is a central figure in the epic Ramayana, celebrated for his unparalleled strength, unwavering loyalty, and deep devotion to Lord Rama. In this depiction, he stands with hands pressed together in the traditional Añjali Mudra, a gesture of profound respect and prayer. His posture is one of humble supplication and readiness to serve, reflecting his lifelong commitment to righteousness and duty. The serene yet powerful gaze from his expressive face speaks volumes of his inner strength and divine wisdom. His adorned physique, with intricate carvings on his armor and waistcloth, further accentuates his regal bearing and divine status. The halo, a radiant aureole behind his head, signifies his divine nature and the auspicious energy he embodies.

The Sacred Art of Panchaloha

The use of Panchaloha in this sculpture imbues it with exceptional spiritual significance. In Hinduism, this five-metal alloy is considered highly auspicious and is believed to possess mystical properties, enhancing the potency and positive vibrations of the deity it represents. The art of lost-wax casting, originating from ancient India, is a meticulous and labor-intensive process. It begins with a wax model, which is then covered in clay. When heated, the wax melts and drains out, leaving a hollow mold. Molten bronze is poured into this mold, and upon cooling, the metal takes on the exact form of the original wax sculpture. This traditional method, perfected in centers like Swamimalai, a renowned hub for South Indian bronze casting, results in statues of unparalleled artistry and enduring beauty. This particular piece, crafted using this venerable technique, is a tangible connection to centuries of sacred artistic tradition.

A Symbol of Protection and Auspiciousness

The presence of Sankat Mochan Hanuman Ji in one's home or place of worship is believed to ward off negative energies, alleviate troubles, and bestow courage, strength, and wisdom. Hanuman's legendary feats, such as leaping across the ocean to Lanka, carrying the Sanjeevani herb to revive Lakshmana, and burning Lanka with his tail, exemplify his immense power and dedication. This bronze representation serves as a constant reminder of these virtues, inspiring devotees to face their own challenges with resilience and faith. The intricate detailing of the mace, his iconic weapon, coiled beside him, further emphasizes his role as a protector. Owning this statue is not just acquiring a work of art, but inviting a divine presence that offers solace, strength, and the assurance of overcoming all obstacles.
