Embodying Fierce Protection and Transformation

This exquisite 13-inch ritual implement, meticulously handcrafted in India, is a powerful representation of Hayagriva, a wrathful emanation of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. In Tibetan Buddhism, Hayagriva is revered as a fierce deity whose transformative power subdues negative forces, obstacles, and illusions. His iconic horse-head, often depicted emerging from his crown, symbolizes the taming of pride and the swiftness with which he can overcome hindrances. This particular Phurpa, fashioned from durable brass, captures the potent energy and divine ferocity associated with this revered deity.

The Significance of the Phurpa

The Phurpa, also known as a kīla in Sanskrit, is a ritual dagger or stake used in Vajrayana Buddhism for various tantric practices. It symbolizes the piercing of ignorance, the destruction of demonic forces, and the stabilization of the practitioner's energy. The tripartite blade of the Phurpa is said to represent the mastery over the three poisons: attachment, aversion, and ignorance. Its purpose is not to inflict physical harm but to symbolically cut through the veils of delusion and suffering, purifying the mind and transforming negative karma. The intricate details on this Phurpa, including the coiled serpent and the fierce visage often associated with Hayagriva, further amplify its symbolic power. The serpent, in many cultures, represents both danger and healing, transformation and rebirth, echoing the very nature of Hayagriva's wrathful compassion.

A Tool for Spiritual Advancement

For devotees and practitioners, this Hayagriva Phurpa serves as a tangible connection to the divine energy of transformation and protection. It can be incorporated into puja ceremonies, meditation practices, or displayed as a sacred object in a home shrine, radiating its protective aura. The craftsmanship speaks to the dedication and spiritual intent imbued in its creation, making it not just a ritual object but a work of art that carries profound spiritual weight. The smooth, polished brass allows for a comfortable grip during ritual use, while its robust construction ensures its longevity as a cherished spiritual companion. Each element of its design is steeped in centuries of tradition, offering a gateway to deeper spiritual understanding and the cultivation of inner strength.

Artistry from India's Sacred Traditions

This artifact is a testament to the rich artistic heritage of India, a land deeply intertwined with spiritual traditions. Handmade with skill and devotion, it embodies the meticulous attention to detail characteristic of Indian craftsmanship. The warm, lustrous finish of the brass, combined with the deep, rich tones of the carved elements, creates a visually striking piece that is both powerful and aesthetically pleasing. Owning such an object is not merely acquiring a decorative item, but rather inviting a piece of sacred artistry into your life, one that carries the blessings and potent energies of Tibetan Buddhist iconography.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
