This brass lamp is known as a Kuthu Vilakku or columnar lamp blessed with the sacred peacock motif. Since it was created from the feathers of the Garuda (Lord Vishnu's sacred mount), the peacock is supposed to be able to alter time. As a result, many different Gods and Goddesses prefer it as a transport. It obtained Lord Indra's grace and developed a beautiful plumage. It's also a decorative component of Lord Krishna's crown. The image of a peacock has become a sacred emblem due to its relationship with so many Gods and Goddesses. This Kuthu Villaku is made out of a five-wick light attached to a stem that mimics a sacred pitcher or Kalash arrangement. Lighting this lamp brings the auspiciousness of the peacock symbol mixed with the warmth of the lamp to a place.

A Beacon of Tradition and Divine Grace

The Kuthu Vilakku, or traditional South Indian oil lamp, is more than just a source of light; it is a revered symbol of prosperity, knowledge, and the dispelling of darkness, both literal and metaphorical. This exquisite piece, crafted from the finest brass, stands as a testament to the enduring artistic traditions of India, designed to illuminate your sacred spaces and bring an aura of divine grace to your home. The lamp's design is both elegant and intricate. At its apex, a beautifully rendered peacock perches, its majestic form a representation of beauty, royalty, and immortality in various Indian mythologies. The peacock is often associated with the goddess Saraswati, the embodiment of knowledge, music, arts, and wisdom, and Lord Krishna, who adorns his crown with its vibrant feathers. Its presence atop the lamp imbues it with a sense of auspiciousness and artistic flair, making it a captivating centerpiece.

Craftsmanship Rooted in Heritage

The shaft of the lamp is a masterpiece of turned brass, featuring a series of finely detailed moldings and decorative bands. These elements are not merely ornamental; they reflect a deep understanding of balance and proportion that has been honed over centuries of artisanal practice. The central bulbous section is adorned with ornate carvings, possibly depicting floral motifs or auspicious symbols, adding layers of texture and visual interest. This meticulous craftsmanship ensures that each lamp is not just a functional item but a work of art, carrying the legacy of generations of skilled metalworkers. The substantial base, designed to catch any stray oil drips, is also elegantly shaped and decorated, providing stability and a regal finish to the entire piece.

The Sacred Glow of Light

In Hindu traditions, the lighting of the lamp, or *deeparadhana*, is an integral part of daily puja rituals and important festivals. The flame symbolizes life, consciousness, and the ultimate reality. It is believed to ward off evil spirits and negative energies, inviting peace, harmony, and divine blessings into the household. The Kuthu Vilakku, with its multiple wicks, offers a brighter and more expansive illumination, signifying the dispelling of profound ignorance and the dawn of spiritual enlightenment. This particular lamp, with its stature and detailed artistry, is perfectly suited for placement in a temple room, a prayer corner, or as a striking decorative element in any living space that seeks to embrace the warmth and sacredness of Indian culture. Its brass construction ensures longevity and a timeless appeal, promising to be a cherished heirloom for years to come.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
