According to the legends of the Panchmukhi Anjaneya Temple in Karnataka, to bless Raghavendra Swamy, Hanuman appeared in a divine five-faced form, marking the spot for the sanctum.

A potent aspect of Hanuman popular in Vaishnava temples of South India, Panchamukhi Anjaneya appears with the heads of Jambavanta (a bear), Varaha (boar), Hayagriva (horse), and Garuda (on the reverse) as Dashabhuja or ten-arm divine, an aspect associated with supreme forms of Hindu gods and goddesses.

Globular earrings, a pearl necklace, a two-stringed Yajnopavita, and a tasseled dhoti wrapped around his muscular feet adorn Anjaneya.

The tail of Hanuman curls stylistically above his crown, its suppleness visible on the reverse of the statue.

Revered by Hanuman-bhaktas as a Tantric form of Hanuman Panchamukhi Anjaneya also embodies the power of the Lord as one of the Rudras.
