Embodiment of Compassion and Enlightenment

This exquisite brass wall hanging mask depicts Tara, a revered female bodhisattva in Tibetan Buddhism, embodying compassion, enlightened action, and the female aspect of the Buddha. Her serene countenance, with eyes gently closed in meditation, conveys a profound sense of peace and inner wisdom. The mask is a testament to the rich artistic heritage of India, where skilled artisans have meticulously handcrafted it from brass, imbuing it with spiritual significance and aesthetic beauty. The intricate details of Tara's adornments are a visual symphony of devotion. Her elaborate headdress, adorned with swirling motifs and floral accents, speaks of her celestial nature. Cascading necklaces and ornate ear ornaments, rendered with remarkable precision, highlight her divine status and her role as a protector. The interplay of warm copper tones in the face and the aged brass of the embellishments creates a captivating contrast, adding depth and character to the piece. This mask is not merely an object of art but a conduit to spiritual contemplation, inviting viewers to connect with the qualities of compassion and wisdom that Tara represents.

The Legend of Tara

Tara is a central figure in Mahayana Buddhism, particularly venerated in Tibetan Buddhism. Legend has it that she manifested from a tear shed by the Buddha of Compassion, Avalokiteshvara, as he grieved for the suffering of the world. Her name, "Tara," signifies "star," symbolizing her guiding light that leads beings across the ocean of existence to liberation. She is often depicted as a young, beautiful woman, vibrant and active, and is known for her swift response to prayers and her ability to overcome obstacles and fears. There are said to be twenty-one forms of Tara, each with distinct attributes and powers, but all rooted in her benevolent nature and her unwavering commitment to the well-being of all sentient beings. This mask captures the essence of her universal motherly love and her role as a savioress.

A Masterpiece of Indian Craftsmanship

Handcrafted in India, this wall hanging mask showcases the time-honored traditions of brass casting and metalwork. The artisans have poured their skill and devotion into every curve and contour, ensuring that this piece is not only a decorative item but also a sacred artifact. The choice of brass, a metal with its own auspicious associations in Indian culture, further enhances the spiritual resonance of the sculpture. The dimensions of this mask ensure it makes a striking statement, whether adorning the walls of a meditation room, a living space, or a dedicated altar. Its presence can serve as a constant reminder of the path to enlightenment and the boundless compassion that resides within us all.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
