Lord Shiva, the Destroyer and the Benevolent

This magnificent brass statue depicts Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities of Hinduism, also known as the Destroyer and Transformer. He is not merely a force of destruction but also a benevolent protector and the source of creation and preservation. Shiva's complex persona embodies both the fearsome and the compassionate, making him a deeply revered figure across the Indian subcontinent and beyond. The statue beautifully captures Shiva's divine form, standing tall and exuding a sense of serene power. Notice the Abhaya Mudra, the gesture of reassurance and fearlessness, offered by his raised right hand. This mudra signifies protection and dispels any trepidation in the devotee's heart. Observe the cobra coiled around his neck, representing Kundalini energy, the latent spiritual power within us all.

Symbolism and Craftsmanship

The trident, or Trishul, held firmly in his other hand, is one of Shiva's most iconic symbols. It represents the three fundamental aspects of existence: creation, preservation, and destruction. It also represents the three Gunas - Sattva (goodness, purity), Rajas (passion, activity), and Tamas (ignorance, inertia). Shiva’s mastery over the Trishul signifies his control over these cosmic forces. The halo behind Shiva’s head signifies divinity. The flowing locks of his hair, matted in the style of a yogi, represent his ascetic nature. This statue is meticulously crafted from brass by skilled artisans in India, each detail thoughtfully rendered to bring forth the essence of the deity. The statue stands upon an elevated base, which depicts the rocky terrain of Mount Kailash, believed to be Shiva's abode.

Kailashpati: Lord of Mount Kailash

The title "Kailashpati" reflects Shiva's association with Mount Kailash in the Himalayas, considered his celestial home and a profoundly sacred site for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon practitioners. In Hindu cosmology, Kailash is seen as the center of the universe, a place where the earthly and divine realms intersect. The mountain's majestic and imposing presence perfectly reflects Shiva's powerful and transcendent nature. This brass representation serves as a tangible connection to that sacred space, inviting a sense of peace, strength, and spiritual awakening into your home or sacred space. Made entirely by hand, this statue carries the mark of the artisan’s dedication and reverence. Owning this piece is not just about possessing an artistic object, but connecting with a deep wellspring of spiritual tradition and artistic heritage.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
