His arrival in Tibet in the 8th century marked a turning point in the country's spiritual history. Invited by King Trisong Detsen, Guru Rinpoche tamed the unruly local deities hindering the construction of the Samye Monastery, the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet. Through his supernatural powers and profound teachings, he subjugated negative forces and established a strong foundation for the flourishing of Buddhism. He is credited with introducing tantric Buddhism to Tibet, translating numerous scriptures, and initiating the first Tibetan monks.
