The quintessential Indian mother-and-child image. This expressive Maa Parvati idol depicts the lovely wife of Shiva with their two sons. She cradles Lord Karttikeya on Her hip and holds the elephant-headed one, Lord Ganesha by the hand as He totters next to Her, almost sliding off the plinth.
The plinth upon which stands the Goddess Parvati is a particularly ornate one. It has a two-tiered base in a quadrilateral shape, and an upturned lotus bloom on top. The feet of Parvati and Ganesha rest upon its pistil. In this composition, the language of the great Parvati Adi Shakti’s form pours forth with compassion and tenderness and every other quality of the divine maternal.
The medium is panchaloha, which in itself is a rare one and difficult to work with. The same holds true for the lost-wax metalcasting technique, known as madhuchista vidhana in the Agamas, with which the work has been executed. As such, this Maa Parvati murti would be a valuable addition to any home or office temple.
