Embodiment of Compassion and Enlightenment

This exquisite brass statue depicts the revered Tibetan Buddhist deity, Tara. Her serene countenance, adorned with a multi-tiered crown and intricate jewelry, radiates an aura of profound peace and spiritual grace. The goddess is seated in a meditative posture upon an ornate lotus throne, a symbol of purity and spiritual blossoming. Her right hand is raised in the gesture of abhaya mudra, bestowing fearlessness and protection, while her left hand rests in her lap, holding a lotus bud, signifying her enlightenment and the unfolding of wisdom.

The Green Tara: A Divine Protector

Tara, particularly the Green Tara, is one of the most beloved and widely venerated female bodhisattvas in Tibetan Buddhism. She is revered as the mother of liberation, the embodiment of active compassion, and a swift protector from all fears and obstacles. Legends tell of her arising from a tear of compassion shed by Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, as he witnessed the suffering of the world. She is often depicted as young, vibrant, and energetic, always ready to offer assistance to those in need. Her green complexion symbolizes her ability to overcome obstacles and her swift, energetic action.

Artistry and Devotion

Handmade in India, this statue is a testament to the skill of traditional artisans who have meticulously crafted each detail. The use of brass lends a timeless quality and a rich, warm patina to the sculpture. The intricate ornamentation of her attire, the delicate rendering of the lotus flowers flanking her, and the elaborate design of the throne all speak to a deep reverence for the divine. This piece is not merely an object of art but a sacred vessel designed to inspire devotion and facilitate spiritual practice. Its substantial size makes it a commanding presence in any sacred space, meditation room, or personal altar. The symbolism within the sculpture is rich with meaning. The lotus, blooming untainted from the mud, represents the transcendence of worldly suffering. The posture and gestures of Tara are intended to evoke a sense of calm, protection, and inner peace for the devotee. The craftsmanship itself is a form of meditation, a dedication of skill and intention to the representation of this important spiritual figure. This statue serves as a tangible link to the spiritual heritage and artistic traditions of India, offering a beautiful and powerful focal point for contemplation and prayer.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
