The Enlightened Witness

This magnificent brass statue depicts Siddhartha Gautama, the prince who renounced his worldly possessions to achieve enlightenment and become the Buddha. He is rendered in the serene and powerful Bhumisparsha Mudra, a gesture deeply symbolic in Buddhist iconography. The name of this mudra, literally translating to "earth-touching" in Sanskrit, alludes to a pivotal moment in the Buddha's journey to enlightenment. Legend has it that as Siddhartha meditated beneath the Bodhi tree, he was assailed by Mara, the demon king, who attempted to disrupt his meditation and claim the seat of enlightenment. Siddhartha, unmoved, called upon the Earth goddess, Bhudevi, to bear witness to his spiritual attainment. He then extended his right hand, palm facing inwards, to touch the earth. The Earth trembled, and Mara was vanquished, signifying the triumph of wisdom and compassion over ignorance and desire. This exquisite representation captures the Buddha in this profound posture, his right hand resting on his knee, fingers gently pointing downwards towards the earth. This gesture embodies his unwavering resolve, his connection to the physical world, and his ultimate victory over inner and outer obstacles. The calm, downcast gaze and the subtle smile on his lips convey a profound sense of peace, wisdom, and compassion that radiates from the figure.

A Royal Presence Adorned

What truly distinguishes this statue is its opulent adornment. The brass has been meticulously worked, giving the figure a lustrous golden sheen that speaks of timeless beauty. The intricate inlay work adorning the Buddha's robe and the base adds layers of visual richness and symbolic depth. Vivid red and blue stones are interspersed with green hues, creating a mesmerizing mosaic effect. The vibrant colors are not merely decorative; they often represent various spiritual attributes or energies within Buddhist cosmology. The striking crown, itself a work of art, elevates the Buddha beyond a mere ascetic to a regal figure, reflecting his princely origins and his ultimate spiritual sovereignty. This crown is often interpreted as symbolizing his attainment of supreme wisdom and his dominion over the realms of existence. The detailed ornamentation around his neck and shoulders further enhances the sense of divine presence and majestic tranquility. This piece is more than just a statue; it is a conduit to a spiritual practice that has shaped cultures and minds for millennia. It serves as a powerful reminder of the Buddha's teachings on mindfulness, compassion, and the path to liberation. Place it in your home or meditation space to invite an atmosphere of peace, wisdom, and unwavering spiritual strength. Its substantial presence and detailed craftsmanship make it a remarkable centerpiece for any collector or devotee seeking to connect with the profound legacy of the Buddha.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
