24" Lord Krishna Idol Dancing with Cow | Wooden Statue

$725
Includes any tariffs and taxes

Inspired by ancient shrines of the fluting Lord, this wooden statue of Krishna brings an antique appeal to its iconography, which depicts a unique form of Krishna. With his flute in one hand, accompanied by his Gau or cow, Krishna appears as a young boy, with a plump body, elaborate hairdo, and beautiful ornaments, wearing a Langot or short lower body garment.

Keeping one hand on his waist, Krishna stands in his characteristic Tribhanga pose, but instead of playing his flute, he strikes an animated dancing pose, bringing an aesthetic beauty to the composition. Mesmerized and in awe of her companion, the cow turns her head upwards, adding to the dynamism of the scene. An inward smile is seen on the countenance of Krishna, whose glorious beauty is celebrated by the ornate Kirtimukha aureole and blooming vegetation.

Lord Krishna: The Divine Flutist and Protector of Vrindavan

This exquisite wooden carving captures the essence of Lord Krishna, the beloved Hindu deity, in a moment of joyous divine play. Depicted in his youthful form, Krishna is shown in a dynamic posture, one leg gracefully placed over the other, embodying the vibrant energy of his celestial dances. The artistry of this piece is evident in the detailed rendering of his adornments – necklaces, armbands, and anklets – all meticulously carved to reflect the opulence associated with the divine. His serene expression and the subtle curve of his lips hint at the melodies he is about to evoke from his flute, a symbol of divine bliss and spiritual awakening. ––––––––––

The Dance of Divinity and Nature

Central to this sculpture is the cow, a creature sacred in Hinduism and intrinsically linked to Lord Krishna's pastoral childhood in the forests of Vrindavan. Krishna, known as Gopala (the protector of cows) and Govinda, spent his formative years tending to herds of cattle, his flute's enchanting music guiding them through lush meadows. This carving illustrates that intimate bond, with Krishna seated upon a cow, as if in a moment of intimate communion with nature and its creatures. The cow, depicted with gentle eyes and a serene demeanor, represents abundance, nourishment, and the peaceful harmony that Krishna brought to the world. The intricate base, adorned with layered carvings reminiscent of lotus petals and traditional motifs, further elevates the deity, signifying his exalted status and the spiritual foundation he provides. ––––––––––

A Timeless Embodiment of Joy and Protection

The rich, aged wood from which this idol is crafted lends a timeless quality to the piece, evoking a sense of history and tradition. The skilled artisan has breathed life into the grain, showcasing the divine figure and his sacred companion with a profound understanding of their mythology. In Hindu lore, Krishna's dances, particularly the Rasa Lila, are not merely physical movements but represent the soul's ecstatic union with the divine. His presence is said to dispel darkness and bring forth joy and enlightenment. This sculpture serves as a constant reminder of these divine attributes, making it a captivating centerpiece for any home or spiritual space, inviting contemplation and radiating an aura of peace and divine grace. It is a testament to the enduring power of faith and the artistic mastery that can translate the stories of the gods into tangible, breathtaking forms.
