How does Vishnu become Perumal (the mightiest Lord)? It is by possessing the auspicious powers of Sridevi and Bhudevi, his two divine wives, who embody the cosmic energies of fertility, wealth, and fortune.
Accompanied by the goddesses of heaven (Sridevi) and earth (Bhudevi), Vishnu is crowned “Jagadeesha”- the lord of the world.
Icon of Vishnu Perumal with Sridevi and Bhudevi is a prayer in metal, a desire for universal bliss envisioned and materialized by the skills of Indian artists.
This bronze statue follows the traditional Shilpashastras or canons on iconography depicting Vishnu in the center, on a higher lotus pedestal, adorned with a unique conical crown, Makara-shaped earrings, dhoti, and an elaborate waist ornament. Both his hands are in Varada mudra, the gesture of giving boons.
Sharing the pedestal with their beloved is Sridevi on Vishnu’s right, with ample bosom, a round face, and a gentle smile while a younger-looking Bhudevi appears on Vishnu’s left, with a meditative face. The aureole is decorated with vegetation and Chakra- the symbol of the eternal movement of time at the top, representing the ceaseless cycles of time nurtured by the divine Perumal and his Shaktis.
