A seated Buddha murti of substantial proportions. A perfectly symmetrical padmasana, a sublime composure of countenance. The complexion of the erstwhile Shakyamuni, a richly textured green. Set off by hints of natural gold on the hair and robe and etchings of feature.

The sculpture that you see on this page is made of pure brass. The bitone colour palette features the aforementioned earthy green hue and gold in varying extents of sheen. For example, the hems of the Buddha’s unstitched robe have an unmistakable metallic shimmer, while the engravings on its surface area have more to do with visual detail than shimmer.

Speaking of shimmer, more of it is to be found in the core petals of the lotus-shaped throne on which the figure is seated. Both the colour gold and the lotus flower stand for divinity and compassion in Hindu-Buddhist cultures.

The Awakening of Compassion

This magnificent brass statue captures the very moment of enlightenment, depicting Lord Buddha in the sacred Bhumisparsha Mudra. The posture, with the right hand gracefully reaching down to touch the earth, symbolizes the Buddha's triumph over Mara, the demon who tempted him with worldly desires and distractions. It is a profound gesture of grounding, of calling the Earth as witness to his awakening and the unwavering truth he attained. The serene expression on the Buddha's face, with half-closed eyes and a gentle smile, radiates an aura of profound peace and deep wisdom, inviting contemplation and inner stillness.

Crafted from high-quality brass, this statue stands as a testament to centuries of artistic tradition. The verdant patina, achieved through meticulous craftsmanship, evokes the ancient patina of sacred objects, lending it an air of timeless reverence. The intricate engravings adorning the Buddha's robes tell a visual story of his life, from his princely beginnings to his renunciation and ultimate enlightenment. Each detail, from the flowing lines of his garments to the delicate rendering of his features, speaks to the skill and devotion of the artisans who brought this masterpiece to life. The rich, golden accents that highlight the engravings add a touch of regal splendor, signifying the divine nature of the enlightened one.

Echoes of Sacred Tales

The Bhumisparsha Mudra, also known as the Earth-Touching Mudra, is one of the most significant poses in Buddhist iconography. According to legend, as Siddhartha Gautama sat beneath the Bodhi tree, he was subjected to a final barrage of temptations by Mara. The demon sent his daughters to seduce him and unleashed a fierce storm to shake his resolve. It was at this critical juncture that Siddhartha extended his right hand to touch the earth, calling upon the Earth goddess to bear witness to his worthiness and his unwavering determination to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings. The Earth, it is said, responded with a thunderous roar, reaffirming his spiritual victory.

An Icon of Inner Peace

This substantial statue, with its commanding presence, is more than just a decorative piece; it is a powerful symbol of spiritual aspiration and inner peace. Its intricate details invite close examination, revealing new layers of meaning with each viewing. Placing this statue in your home or sacred space can serve as a constant reminder of the path to enlightenment, the power of mindfulness, and the transformative potential of compassion. It is an heirloom piece, destined to inspire and uplift for generations to come, connecting you to the profound wisdom and timeless teachings of the Buddha.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
