In one of her hymns, the great mother goddess is called “Shiva-Nartaki”- meaning, “she who dances with Shiva” or “she who dances for Shiva”. Mirroring the majesty of Shiva as Nataraja, goddess Uma-Parvati in this wooden statue appears in a divine mood, with dynamism and beauty adorning her presence. Devi Uma Parvati is standing on a beautifully carved lotus pedestal, with the Kirtimukha Prabhavali surrounding her form. The vegetation-style tassels on the halo and Kirtimukha (face of glory), a symbol of divinity amplify the grandeur of the dancing Parvati.

Her form is of a beautiful red color- symbolizing vitality and power and is adorned with ornate jewelry that marks her status as the divine queen mother.

Parvati raises her left leg in the air, in the dynamic Ardhaparanyakaasana, imbuing the statue with a dramatic sense of movement. Her lotus eyes are steady and benevolent, gazing at the onlooker with a motherly firmness. Accompanying her is a yogini, carved in a relatively smaller size to emphasize the greatness of goddess Parvati, who is the source of energy for all beings.

Embrace the vibrant energy and divine power of the goddess with this meticulously hand-carved wooden statue. Rising to a majestic 36 inches, this piece is a testament to the skill and artistry of South Indian craftsmanship. Every detail, from the dynamic pose to the intricate ornamentation, tells a story of devotion and reverence.

The Embodiment of Shakti

This statue represents Devi Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva and the embodiment of Shakti, the divine feminine energy. Parvati is not merely a consort; she is the source of all creation, the force that animates the universe. She is revered as a mother goddess, a symbol of fertility, love, and devotion. As the daughter of Himavan, the king of the Himalayas, Parvati underwent severe penance to win Shiva as her husband, demonstrating her unwavering commitment and strength. This powerful image of Parvati captures her in a dynamic dancing pose, a visual representation of her active role in maintaining cosmic balance.

The Kirtimukha Throne: A Symbol of Victory Over Ego

Parvati is depicted atop a Kirtimukha throne. The Kirtimukha, or "Face of Glory," is a fierce leonine figure often found above doorways and on temple facades. Legend says that a demon named Kirtimukha was once sent by Shiva to devour another demon. After the demon had eaten its prey, Shiva ordered him to devour himself, which he did, leaving only his face. Impressed by the demon's devotion and obedience, Shiva declared that Kirtimukha would be placed above temple entrances, symbolizing the victory over ego and the purification required before entering sacred spaces. It serves as a reminder to all who approach that they must shed their pride and self-importance. The Kirtimukha throne adds a layer of protection and power to Parvati's representation.

A Symphony of Arms and Attributes

The six arms of the deity symbolize her immense power and ability to fulfill various roles. Each hand might carry a specific attribute, subtly hinting at the different aspects of her divinity. The gestures (mudras) held by the hands may represent blessings, protection, or the granting of boons to devotees. The overall effect is a dynamic and multi-faceted representation of the divine feminine, demonstrating her ability to address the diverse needs of her devotees.

Dimensions and Material

This piece measures 36.0 x 22.5 x 6.0 inches. The statue is made of wood. The beauty of this item lies in the handcrafted nature and may have some imperfections that should be considered part of its character and charm.
