36" Large Wooden Dancing Goddess Saraswati on Lotus

$1069
Includes any tariffs and taxes

She is the fairest of the Hindu pantheon. In the otherworld, She dances as She plays on Her veena. She is the wife of Brahma and the presiding deity over learning and the fine arts. She is Sarasvati, the Devi of unparalleled beauty and the divine musician, of whose iconography the veena is an indispensable part.

The soft-featured Sarasvati murti that you see on this page is seemingly taken off the walls of an ancient South Indian temple. The iconography as well as the architecture surrounding it, have been reproduced with great skill and patience on the part of the artisan. As a medium, wood demands double the skill and meticulousness as other, more run-of-the-mill media.

This Sarasvati murti is a predominantly monotone composition. Hints of colour in the Devi’s shringar and in the classical musical instrument She cradles in Her hands. Her hip juts out laterally, the right foot is raised in the air; which together make for a dynamic stance.

Embrace the Divine Melody of Knowledge and Art

This magnificent wooden sculpture captures the essence of Goddess Saraswati in a moment of dynamic dance, a celebration of her multifaceted divine attributes. Standing an impressive 36 inches tall, this piece is a testament to the skill of South Indian artisans, who have meticulously carved the wood to bring forth a divine presence that radiates wisdom, creativity, and harmony. The goddess is depicted gracefully poised on a lotus bloom, a symbol of purity and spiritual enlightenment, with her characteristic Veena, the ancient Indian lute, held in her hands, ready to weave enchanting melodies.

A Goddess of Many Facets

Saraswati is revered as the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, arts, wisdom, and learning. Her name itself, meaning "one who flows," alludes to the continuous flow of consciousness and understanding. She is often depicted with four arms, representing the four aspects of human personality in learning: mind, intellect, memory, and ego. In this exquisite carving, her form is imbued with a sense of movement and fluidity, embodying the dynamic nature of artistic expression and intellectual pursuit. The vibrant, yet weathered, colors that adorn the sculpture hint at a rich history and the passage of time, adding to its aura of authenticity and spiritual depth.

Craftsmanship Rooted in Tradition

The detailed ornamentation, from the intricate headdress and jewelry to the flowing garments and the ornate frame surrounding the goddess, showcases the profound artistry passed down through generations. The frame itself is a work of art, adorned with motifs that echo the divine energy of Saraswati. The presence of a smaller figure at the base, often interpreted as a devotee or a muse, further enriches the narrative, highlighting the reverence and inspiration she commands. This piece is not merely a decorative object; it is a conduit for spiritual contemplation, a reminder of the pursuit of knowledge and the beauty of artistic creation.

Invoking Harmony and Inspiration

Placing this statue in your home or sacred space is an invitation for divine grace and inspiration. It serves as a constant reminder to cultivate knowledge, nurture creativity, and seek harmony in all aspects of life. The dancing form of Saraswati speaks to the joy and liberation found in artistic expression, while her association with learning encourages a lifelong commitment to intellectual growth. This substantial wooden sculpture, with its commanding presence and profound symbolism, is a truly remarkable addition for collectors and devotees alike, promising to imbue any environment with a sense of divine beauty and artistic spirit.
