36" Large Wooden Goddess Saraswati Seated on Lotus

$1150
Includes any tariffs and taxes

The image of Devi Sarasvati, seated on a padma or lotus. Limbs in lalitasana; a slender, long-necked veena cradled on Her lap. Fair hands strumming at its strings and playing on its belly. A wide-set brow like the wings of a soaring albatross. Cascading black curls from under Her crown to match.

Devi Sarasvati is the presiding deity over learning and the fine arts. The murti of Her that you see on this page depicts Her in all Her ethereal beauty. It is a longline composition, half of which comprises plinth and throne. A roseate colour characterises Her majorly naked complexion, the same as the layered petals of the lotus beneath Her.

A dhoti of green silk and hints of blue along the body of the veena. More traditional jewel tones along the Devi’s crown. The colours introduced into the composition are somewhat washed out and deeply textured, owing to the nature of the organic wood medium.

Embodiment of Divine Wisdom and Artistry

This magnificent wooden depiction of Goddess Saraswati, seated gracefully upon a blooming lotus, is a testament to the rich artistic traditions and profound spiritual heritage of South India. Standing an impressive 36 inches tall, this sculpture is not merely an object of decor but a sacred representation that brings an aura of divine wisdom, creativity, and learning into any space it graces. The intricate carving details, rendered with skill and devotion, capture the serene yet powerful essence of the Goddess, making it a truly captivating centerpiece. Saraswati, revered as the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, arts, wisdom, and learning, is often depicted with a veena (a stringed instrument) in her hands, symbolizing the divine melody and harmony that permeates the universe. In this sculpture, the Goddess holds her veena, poised to play a celestial tune, while her other hands are adorned with a mala (rosary) for meditation and a book, representing the vastness of scriptural knowledge. Her serene gaze and gentle smile emanate an aura of peace and enlightenment. The lotus upon which she is seated is a powerful symbol in Hinduism, representing purity, beauty, and spiritual awakening, as it rises untainted from muddy waters. ––––––––––
