This magnificent wooden carving captures a pivotal moment from Hindu mythology, depicting Lord Krishna in his divine form subduing the serpent Kaliya. The story of Krishna and Kaliya originates from the ancient Indian epic, the *Srimad Bhagavatam*. The demon serpent Kaliya, possessing a thousand heads, terrorized the inhabitants of Vrindavan by poisoning the Yamuna River, making it deadly for all living beings. The cows and people of the village suffered greatly. Lord Krishna, as a young cowherd boy, fearlessly leaped into the poisoned waters. The ensuing battle was fierce, with Krishna dancing upon Kaliya's many heads, forcing the serpent to submit. This divine dance, known as the *Kaliya Mardanam*, signifies the triumph of good over evil, purity over corruption, and the inherent power of the divine to restore balance to the world. This carving beautifully encapsulates that moment of victory, with Krishna poised gracefully, his presence radiating strength and serenity.

Artistry and Symbolism

The artist has masterfully depicted Krishna's youthful exuberance and divine power.
