4" Small Copper Bala Murugan (Kartikeya) Statue | Handmade

$69
Includes any tariffs and taxes

Skanda-Purana, one of the chief Puranas (a group of Hindu religious books) describes how a young Kartikeya through his thirst for the ultimate knowledge became the Guru of the Adideva and Mahadevi, his own divine parents. It is this form of Murugan that is depicted in the copper statue seen on this page.

When Kartikeya or Murugan began his education, even Brahama was not able to answer his insightful questions. Finally, Shiva and Parvati were enlightened by Murugan on the meaning of Om, the primordial sound, and the essence of the Universe, hence making him their Guru. In this copper statue, Bala Murugan, young Kartikeya stands in the garb of a sannyasin, with his right hand raised in the gesture of teaching- the Vitarka mudra.

Mythological Significance and Cultural Resonance

In Hindu mythology, Lord Murugan is a beloved deity, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. He is often depicted as a warrior god, born to defeat the demon Surapadman who had tormented the gods. His youthful appearance as Bala Murugan signifies his boundless energy and potential, representing the power of new beginnings and unwavering resolve. Legends tell of his divine peacock, his potent Vel (spear), and his triumphant battles that brought peace back to the cosmos. This statue serves as a tangible connection to these powerful narratives, allowing devotees to invite the blessings and protective energy of Murugan into their homes and lives. The use of copper, a sacred metal in many traditions, adds another layer of spiritual potency, believed to possess purifying and conductive properties. This small yet significant statue can be a focal point for meditation, a source of inspiration, or a cherished decorative piece that radiates divine grace.
