Mahadeva is a simple epithet of Shiva that translates to the ‘great lord’. This Lord Shiva big statue depicts Him as the chaturbhujadhari (four-armed) ascetic. The multitudinous limbs in Hindu iconography are symbolic of divine capacity.

On the pistil of an upturned lotus stands the ascetic of all ascetics. He is clad in a loincloth, fashioned from the skin of an animal that He had overpowered with His bare hands in the wild (its open-mouthed head still graces the hem of the Lord’s garment). Wild-bead ornaments cascading down His torso, and karnakundalas touching the zenith of His wide-set clavicles.

In the hands of this Mahadeva big statue are a quantum of blessing in the aashirvaad mudra and the kamandalu in the anterior hands, and trishoola va damroo in the posterior hands. It is a monotone brass composition that would look great both in the outdoors (say, in the garden or at the entrance to your home) and indoor.

Embodying Divine Presence: The Majestic Lord Shiva

This magnificent brass statue captures the awe-inspiring essence of Lord Mahadeva, the Supreme Being in Hinduism, revered as the destroyer and transformer of the universe. Standing tall and commanding, this representation of Shiva exudes an aura of immense power, tranquility, and profound spirituality. Crafted from high-quality brass, the sculpture boasts a rich, lustrous finish that highlights the intricate details of Shiva's divine form. The inherent warmth and enduring nature of brass lend themselves perfectly to portraying the eternal and omnipotent nature of this revered deity.

Symbolism and Iconography

Every element of this sculpture is imbued with deep symbolic meaning, reflecting the multifaceted nature of Lord Shiva. Shiva is depicted with multiple arms, signifying his omnipresence and his ability to perform myriad cosmic actions simultaneously. In one hand, he firmly grasps the Trishul, his principal weapon, symbolizing the three fundamental aspects of existence: creation, preservation, and destruction, as well as his command over past, present, and future. The cobra coiled around his neck represents the awakening of Kundalini energy, the primal cosmic force, and his mastery over ego and worldly attachments. His serene expression, often referred to as the "third eye" (though not always visually depicted as open in every form), signifies his transcendent wisdom and ability to perceive beyond the mundane. He is often adorned with beads, signifying his ascetic nature and detachment from material possessions, yet also his role as the lord of all creation.

The Ascetic and the Cosmic Dancer

Shiva is venerated as both the stern ascetic meditating in the Himalayas and the blissful cosmic dancer, Nataraja, whose Tandava dance perpetuates the cycle of the universe. This statue, with its regal bearing and the powerful symbolism it carries, hints at both these profound aspects. The loincloth, often fashioned from animal skin, signifies his transcendence over the animalistic nature within humanity and his association with the wild and untamed forces of creation. The pot held in one of his hands might represent the vessel of cosmic nectar or the ashes of the universe, symbolizing his role in both sustenance and dissolution. The overall posture is one of dignified strength and inner peace, reflecting Shiva's role as the ultimate Yogi and the source of all spiritual power. This large brass representation serves not just as a decorative piece but as a potent reminder of the cyclical nature of life, death, and rebirth, and the presence of the divine in the ever-changing cosmos. It is an embodiment of the spiritual pursuit, inviting contemplation and reverence.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
