48" Large Wooden Dancing Lord Shiva Sculpture

$2225
Includes any tariffs and taxes

When we think of Shiva, the imagery is often singular in one’s mind, as a dancer in Ananda Tandava - Shiva, who’s beyond the regulation of imagination, carved into this stunning wooden figurine is depicted as a musician -Ashtabhujadhari Pasupati (eight-armed) about to perform the dance of cosmic essence within the Prabhamandala with a Kirtimukha. His eyes inspire an impression of fierceness, with his legs crossed; he holds an axe, dagger, Japa mala, Kartal, Sitar, antelope, fire, and sutra. Ornamented with chains and Naga coils, he wears the Khadau on his feet. Curved at his waist almost in the initiation of the movement, he’s accompanied by Lord Vishnu playing the mridangam and Lord Brahma playing the manjeera/jalra - together forming the rhythm of the world representing creation, preservation, and destruction.

A Symphony in Wood: The Cosmic Dance of Lord Shiva

This magnificent, large-scale wooden sculpture captures the divine energy and cosmic dance of Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities of Hinduism. Standing at an impressive height, this artwork is a testament to the skill of ancient artisans who carved from solid wood a vision of divine power and graceful movement. The intricate details, from the elaborate headdress to the muscular build of the deity, convey a sense of profound spirituality and artistic mastery. The sculpture depicts Lord Shiva in his Annihilation form, also known as Nataraja, the Lord of the Dance. This dynamic pose, with its multiple arms extended, symbolizes the cyclical nature of creation, preservation, and destruction. In Hindu cosmology, Shiva's dance is the force that orchestrates the universe, a perpetual rhythm that brings all things into being and eventually dissolves them, only for creation to begin anew. The archway framing Shiva represents the cosmic egg, or the universe itself, within which this eternal dance unfolds.

Symbolism and Divine Attributes

Each element of this sculpture is laden with meaning. Lord Shiva's vigorous stance and his many arms are indicative of his boundless energy and his ability to engage with all aspects of existence simultaneously. The objects held within his hands further illuminate his divine roles. Here, he holds instruments that resonate with the spiritual and creative forces. One hand is poised with a drum, symbolizing the primal sound of creation, the 'Om,' from which the universe emanates. Another hand might hold a flame, representing destruction, but also purification and transformation. His serene expression, even amidst such powerful movement, speaks to his detachment and his role as the supreme consciousness observing the unfolding of the cosmos. The figures flanking the main deity, perhaps representing celestial beings or devotees, add depth and context to the divine performance, witnessing and participating in the cosmic drama.

A Timeless Masterpiece

Crafted from high-quality wood, this sculpture possesses a rich texture and a sense of ancient gravitas. The patina suggests it has weathered the passage of time, absorbing the stories and energies of generations. The traditional carving techniques employed ensure that every curve, every line, and every motif is rendered with precision and artistic intent. This piece is not merely a decorative object; it is a spiritual conduit, an invitation to contemplate the profound philosophical concepts embedded within Hindu tradition. It is a statement piece, destined to become the focal point of any sacred space, meditation room, or discerning collector's sanctuary, bringing with it an aura of ancient wisdom and divine grace. Its substantial size makes it a commanding presence, capable of inspiring awe and deep reflection.
