As the vahana of Lord Vishnu, Garuda is well-known. He is half-eagle, half-human, with the strength and intelligence of a thousand eagles and the viveka of one born as many times. A deity in His own right, the sculpture is a pink stone iconography of standalone Garuda.
A multi-tiered plinth. Beneath it, an upturned lotus bloom. Lord Garuda is seated on it, with one knee touching its surface. His hands are in the namaskaram mudra. It is indicative of His deeply devoted nature. A pair of grand eagle wings spread out right under His broad shoulders. The faint engravings on them are imbued with a hint of colour.
An interesting detail is the snake peering out from amongst the pleats of Garuda’s dhoti. The face of divinity has been sculpted with a remarkable level of detail and complexity, a visual fusion of human and aquiline composure. Note the hood of another snake above Garuda’s crown.
